SASA was the biggest show of the year for Enterstage with local and international artists performing and a guest list of A lists as long as my arm. This prestigious evening took 3 days to build. Enterstage were responsible for all the set design and technical designs as well as media planning with Supersport for the live broadcast.

We made use of 160 panels of LED screen to make up the set, with 3 x 8×4 meter screens, to relay all the action on stage, all run off Spyder technology to make up the stage look.

We supplied and engineered the Audio for FOH ,Monitors and broadcast feeds.

The event was a huge success!

Freightliner Launch 2012 – Namibia

The Freightliner launch in Namibia made use of the most popular new Projection technology, Video Mapping. Enterstage Africa was employed to supply a video map of an entire dune in the Namibian desert measuring 75m wide by 45m high.
This massive task was undertaken by, Andrew Black, Enterstage’s MD and creative head.

Enterstage Africa made use of 6 HD projectors, which were stitched and mapped to create one giant video canvas in the Namibian Desert. The task was difficult and took 2 nights of mapping to achieve.

The results were amazing, the picture was larger than life and with the media created for this giant natural screen, in the theme of dinosaurs and sea monsters, it was truly a magical experience for both the client and their consumers.

At Enterstage we are all proud followers of South African sports and we are in turn extremely proud to have been a part of this year’s South African Sports Awards that took place this weekend at Sun City.
A multi-camera set up including remote-controlled jibs and various dollies were patched into a digital interface and broadcast live to thousands of South Africans on SABC 1 last night. The stage came alive with three 8×4 meter screens, a stockpiling of 150 lights, coupled with a top of the range line-array system and a mosaic of twelve portait hanging LED panels framed artists to the likes of pop and RnB star, Brandi who was flown in from the USA especially for the occasion.

Enterstage Africa is submitting this live from the Durban ICC on this, the weekend marking the beginning of the Travel and Tourism Indaba at the Durban International Convention Centre. Enterstage Africa together with Witch and Wizard Productions have put together a show that really does match the scale of this auspicious event – The Largest Travel Expo in Africa. Few truly realise the amount of time and effort that goes into making sure this event is as warm and magical as the people it represents – South Africans and their hospitality. A first for the Indaba, was a 20×5 meter screen which was erected at the front of the Durban ICC auditorium hall which became the main feature of each events’ visual wonderment.

The 20 x 5 meter screen

Andrew Black ensured all three projectors required to cover the surface area of this monster of a screen were matched and blended so that the heart-warming and ‘gees-filled’ AVs produced by Witch and Wizard Productions together with South African Tourism were seen and loved by all. Roger Scheepers, our well-loved sound engineer with a track record that would impress any muso, orchestrated the four sets of line-array that were assembled aerially as well as around the venue. We all had the pleasure of hearing Rog mix the likes of Ladysmith Black Mambazo in the Opening Ceremony on Saturday night. Gavin Wright, our technical master of everything, projected visuals of Durban and South Africa onto the Ladysmith boys’ flowing white costumes to create a surreal effect as their beautifully harmonised voices resonated through the auditorium. Nick Ludford filled the arena with warm red lighting as well as a carefully programmed show that warmed everyone’s hearts and made them proud to call this beautiful country their own.

Special thanks must be made to Request Moroane and Gavin Wright for all the sleepless nights spent waiting for the hydraulic chairs to be dropped and lifted, and dropped again, to hang trussing.

Richard Quest Guest MC for GMFO conference

It was worth it in the end, as each event over the course of the weekend was truly unique and special in its own way. A big thanks to Jurie, Ian and team from Witch and Wizard Productions for keeping things slick, and of course, fun as hell.

Keep posted for more news from the Welcome Awards as well as more pictures coming soon!

The Citroen C4 has always been positioned as cutting edge and ahead of the trend. The 2006 model made use of CG technology in a well-loved commercial that mimicked the fictional Transformers character, Megatron.

Watch the 2006 Citroen C4 ad here

In 2011, Enterstage was hired to bring the same flare to the launch event of the new Citroen C4, now with a new shape and a very sexy red.

A variety of screens and projections were used to make this event truly come alive at the Turbine Hall in Johannesburg City. The new model Citroen C4 was carefully concealed behind a gauze screen which was, throughout the course of the night, displaying visualisations of the C4′s new features. Surrounding screens made use of a technology called Spyder, a rarely used and relatively new technology to South Africa, which Enterstage prides itself on being specialists in.
Spyder allows one to split an image across a multitude of screens of any dimension creating the effect of a surrounding visual, and hence a more profound experience for the viewer. The multitude of screens assisted the overall effect, especially when the veil that was concealing the Citroen C4 was dropped, kabuki style, to a round of applause.

The Xtrata event which was held in FEB this year was an excellent example of concept and design to fit the Company’s, theme culture and representation of their working environment.

The lighting design was crucial to the success which was pulled off by Nick Ludford and Vuyo Mpateni as his assistant.
The silver metal trussing cast a magnificent asthetic to the appearance of the venue once perfectly lit, using Mac intel and LED technology on upright totems and box truss hung above the dinner area.
Think Supermans ice cave where his kryptonite is kept for the type of feel of this event. One to match the icyness of the underground mines.

The AV element headed by Gavin Wright, achieved its own objective by striking the nail on the head with the use of a 6.6m x 2m screen stretched in a truss frame between 2 ground support structures.
Spyder once again was used to blend the Christie projectors which lit up the screen.

JBL VRX bins and line array tops were used to pulsate the rythems of Sterling EQ to the anticipating audience.

Audio effects of drones, drilling, trucks, quakes and so on were gently mixed in the background behind the music to emulate the fact one was actually underground.

Our editors created a visual mix of stills and video which laced the wide screen warming the room to find that perfect balance needed to comfort the guests during dinner.

Technical creativity a standard for Enterstage Africa!

Enterstage Africa continues spoiling their clients with creative techinical solutions.
With the Nissan slogan “Shift the way you move” in mind a technical show was created where by a circular set with 4 risers for speech and 1 main stage area were built at equal points to complete the circular set.

Each of the 5 stage points had a lecturn and 8x6ft screen for media relay.
Our Spyder Vista system was used to programme the show allowing multiple sources of media to be relayed to the allocated screen/screens as the presenters moved in a anti-clockwise direction from stage to stage, with auto cue always being displayed on the opposite screens while their presentations were relayed to the screen behind them.

Audio was positioned left and right of each stage as well. Boasting the JBL VRX series and JBL PRX monitor series for sound with Shure SLX series mics to ensure excellent speech quality. The audio was also directed to the allocated speakers as the presenters moved using our 32channel LS9 Yamaha digital mixer.

The show was slick with Jeremy Mags as MC and went off with out hitch placing us on a solid foot as team 2 made final preparations for the gala event.

Pic of one of the risers used for presenting during a rehearsal.

The gala event was large and in charge!

A stage spanning 16mx6m to accomodate the winners as they came up to recieve their awards was put into perspective by an impressive 4m x 15m wide screen mounted in trussing and rigged behind the stage which relayed various media clips, vids, awards presentation and camera shots. We ensured the lighting would make an impact by rigging, 14 intel mac 575 and 250′s, 40 Led cans and 4 source 4′s as spots.

The projection blend and programming of show was achieved using Spyder.
A 3 camera rig mixed using the Sony Anycast maintained consistent live to screen footage of the MC Ursula, award winners and entertainers Electro Muse.

Audio was no small effort with our JBL Line array system in place to comfort the guests with a well balanced even spread of high quality sound.

It was an audio visual feast! more spoils to come..

Gavin Wright, our esteemed audio visual technician, lovingly known to his colleagues as ‘Maverick’, and crew went back to school this week at the University of the Witwatersrand with Lucozade. Enterstage is proud to be a part of the Lucozade roadshow that is being conducted currently at universities across South Africa.

A 4×3 meter LED screen which hung majestically off a truss above the stage, a PA system with full front of house consisting of Sony Anycast and LS9 mixer were all provided to create an extremely impactful atmosphere for the students at Wits.

Gavin, aka 'Maverick', impressing the ladies with his visual mixing skills

Lucozade provided entertainment of the likes of a performance from AK as well as make-the-circle-bigger-man, JR, as MC for the day, handing out loads of prizes to those who were sharp enough to complete their challenges. Gavin Wright, aka “Maverick”, operated the Sony Anycast which provided a sick mix of visuals to the monster LED screen that commanded the attention of the students as well as the JBL! VRX PA system which was kindly mixed by our up ‘n coming star of a sound engineer, Ndumisani.

Keep an ear to the ground for the up and coming Lucozade promotions coming to Potchefstroom and Durbs in the very near future!

Enterstage Africa would like to thank all of you for all your support throughout 2010. It was a year of great success for us as a company. We pride ourselves on our ability to meet any challenge with the most qualified technical team in the country. Simply put, we never say ‘It can’t be done.’
It is this attitude, partnered with our characteristic creativity and positive frame-of-mind that has brought us a list of clients that we can be immensely proud of for some time to come. 2010 was the year to commence many new relationships:

We are now the preferred technical suppliers to the Protea Hotels Group of Hotels ensuring all their conferencing and eventing needs are met on a weekly basis. We were also awarded the technical contract for the Buffalo City Municipality (East London)
Which allowed us the great honour of bringing the Fifa 2010 World Cup to a large scale of fans in some of South Africa’s more rural areas with a collection of Fan Parks set up along the hills of the Eastern Cape.
We are also very proud to announce that 2010 was the year we were awarded the title as preferred technical supplier to the annual Africa Travel and Tourism Indaba taking place in Durban, a platform for the world to come and meet the biggest players in the global tourism industry. We are also extremely proud of our Managing Director, Andrew Black, who worked as Executive Producer on Way of the Warrior, an original South African reality show, which was produced, staged, filmed, and aired by South African broadcasters, the Action Channel, all within the space of six months. Way of the Warrior was, just this month, nominated for the Best Reality TV Show at the SAFDAs. A big thanks goes out to all who were involved with making this project, which was somewhat new territory for all of us, so special.

It is clear to us that South Africa is now swiftly moving ahead as the favourite to host some of the world’s greatest shows. Worldwide, advances in technology are growing faster than we ever imagined along with people’s expectations and perceptions of what is ‘cutting-edge’. Enterstage Africa are passionate about keeping South Africa at the global forefront of new technologies as well as new and exciting ways to make our shows come alive and give audiences something they have never before experienced.
